Education is not just for the young.  As we grow, we find learning comes from many different places. One such place can be found on the pages of a book written by William P. Young. “The Shack” has been on the New York Times bestseller list since June of 2008. Quite an achievement given he originally wrote the story just for his 6 grandchildren. His friends after reading the story, prodded him to have the work published. Unfortunately no publisher was willing to take him on. He and two friends used their available credit card balanced in order to finance the first printing. By simple word of mouth, book sales have surpassed one million copies.

“The Shack” starts with the main character receiving a note from ‘Papa’. Papa is a name oft used by his wife when referring to God. The story goes on to portray the depth of human suffering, and the glory of rediscovering the Holy Spirit within oneself. The book is loved by many, but also critically reviews by some in the evangelical community. You will have to decide for yourself, and I do recommend you pick up a copy and enjoy this tale for yourself. This web-link will take you to a Lutheran Study Guide with theological references for “The Shack” by Reverend Scott Anderson.  http://www.feautor.org/uploads/contributions/12499181270/TheoShackolessonoplan.pdf
