Christian Education

As a committee we have the privilege and joy of overseeing educational opportunities for the church – Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, the nursery and the library. Our meetings are the first Wednesday of each month in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 PM. We would love to have people join us or come give suggestions!

The Evangelism Committee is tasked to oversee and assist in the planning and conduct of the programs and ministries of witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  It involves members in outreach into the unchurched community and inreach into the congregational family.  It provides visitation and contact with members lapsing into inactivity and to prospective members.  It will continually seek to bring people into our community of faith.

The Fellowship Committee is charged with overseeing and assisting in the planning and conduct of ministries in the congregation that will nurture the personal and spiritual lives of the members and will enrich congregational fellowship.  It provides groups, programs, ministries, and events for the various age groups and interests of congregational members.  Some of the programs include the Wednesday Night Dinner, Progressive Dinner, Church Wide Pot Luck, Easter Sunday Breakfast prepared by Chef Glenn Harold, Coffee Hour following services, Lutheran Night at the Ball Park and many others.

The Property Committee oversees and provides proper maintenance and protection of all property of the congregation.  It conducts periodic inspections of all property and makes recommendations to the Congregation Council on expenditure for construction, major repairs and modifications.   This includes items such as building inspections, installing equipment, landscape maintenance & irrigation, building care painting and cleaning, A/C and water heater systems, roof repairs, lighting, electrical usage, etc.

The Youth Committee assists with the planning development and staffing of Junior and Senior High events.

The youth of St. Matthew’s participated in service, fellowship and fundraising activities throughout the year.  The Youth Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month to plan events.  The Youth Group meets on Sunday evenings (about twice a month) for food, fellowship, Bible study, games and to plan future events.  The Youth Group also meets for other fellowship events and service projects throughout each month and throughout the year.

Some of the Fellowship and fun activities included:  A High School lock-in and a Middle School lock-in, events with Highlands United Presbyterian church, Zoo Clean-up project, and Universal’s “Rock the Universe”.  The youth hosted a Fall Dance for the youth and their friends.
